Gary's tasting notes

Jim Barbour is one of Napa Valley's most iconic viticulturalists / vineyard managers, with more than a few decades in the biz. However, his namesake label has become one of my favorite Napa Valley Cabernets. With another icon as his winemaker, Celia Welch, it's no wonder why these wines are so tremendous. Very Bordeaux-like Napa Cabernet, reminding me of many great Classified Growth wines from the Left Bank in Bordeaux. The 2007 has explosive red and black fruits on the nose with a little bit of pipe tobacco, like Uncle Joe sparked it up and starts telling old stories of the Napa Cabs he used to drink, back in the day. Mouthfeel is very silky, with huge power, red fruits... tart cranberries... and an epic finish. Beautiful, textbook Cabernet. The only downside to this wine is that there are only 400 total cases made.
