Gary's tasting notes

Wow! This is such an interesting nose. Coconut, almost suntan-like notes. Blueberry jam and inky nose... makes me think of squid ink. Almost a hint of paint smell. Very, very ripe nose... I'm slightly concerned this will be too big. Here's the interesting thing... unlike so many wines at 15.9% alcohol (and I'm struggling to understand why), is not pissing me off. I'm going to retaste it right now... somehow through this gorgeous grape / coconut characteristics, it's appealing. It's got lean aspects, controlling its dessert like obnoxiousness. There are rumors around the NBA that Lebron James is over 300 lbs. but the reason that doesn't make sense is that his frame is able to hold it in. This wine reminds me of Lebron... the components don't make sense given its explosiveness and alcohol, but "the frame" (its structure and tannins), are able to contain it. I can't believe I'm about to say this, but I love this big boy. This isn't the greatest food wine I've ever seen but having a few buddies over the Heat vs. Knicks game, this is a bottle I'd like to pop.
