Episode #77 Revisiting Colorado Red Wines

After a shocking result in episode #26 of Daily Grape, Gary Vaynerchuk revisits a couple of Bordeaux-inspired red wines from Colorado. Is the hype real? Or was his recent experience an anomaly?

Nice review on the Canyon Wind and BookCliff...being from Colorado, but also being a fan of wines from all over the world, I think you've got it pegged. There are some true beauties coming out of Colorado, and the one varietal that I think hits it's greatest expression in Colorado (especially in the Grand Mesa area) that hasn't been mentioned here is Cab Franc. Try a Cab Franc from Colorado in all it's buttery, silky goodness, and you'll see what I mean. Reminds me of how much Malbec has taken off in Argentina.

CO represent! I was born in Denver and grew up skiing at Copper Mtn. Good times!
QOTD: After skiing down Spaulding Bowl, I'd like to have some light pinot, maybe from Oregon. I love my Burgundies, but for some reason Oregon sounds better in that setting.

QOTD answer is the same here...and Oregon Pinot next to the fireplace hits the spot every time. Russian River Valley'll do, too.

QOTD: Depends on the weather. If its cold a nice Castillo Yqay with a nice steak. If its warm a cool Riesling Spätlese that has a few years of age on it.

I won't laugh...I totally recall when my brother moved to OR 25 years ago and brought back some wine at Christmas (we all just smiled nicely when he put Oregon and wine in the same sentence.) He's still there, and I buy OR wines often now. Apres wine is Shiraz.

How about a little Alicante Bouchet? I guess port would be my second choice, maybe Bogle Petite Syrah Port (?)

Love the "Off the Beaten Path" Wines, keep'em coming GV, Thank you!
QOTD: I don't ski either but I can to agree with Aaron below and say a port is great when coming in from the cold! Sherries also, but a 20yr Tawny is always right!
