Would rather it be a cork, but @ the end of the day as long as the wine is good, then its all gravy!

Excellent episode. Really liked this one.

QOTD: I wouldn't care what type of cork it was (or if it was a screw top) as long as it tastes good.

QOTD (waaaay late): I would probably be a little surprised but not disappointed. I found this installment very interesting; I never realized all the technical considerations that go into cork selection. I'm still not a huge fan of screwtops though; I used to be a wine buyer & had my fair share of leakage issues with screwtops.

QOTD: I would be disappointed. If several of the top producers in major wine regions started using synthetic corks then I would be more willing to accept synthetic corks from wines of all price ranges.

Outstanding episode. It is great to have a personality that completely holds his own against you Gary, makes for a very entertaining half hour. I almost skipped this because I wasn't sure I wanted to see another discussion on closures but this was highly entertaining!! It would have been my loss.

QOTD: If I am completely honest I am still enamored with the whole ritual of pulling the cork, but a synthetic cork that is almost indistinguishable and I knew contributed to great aging of a wine would definitely interest me. I do not think I would be disappointed in the end.

QOTD: I would not be disappointed. In fact, it seems clear that Dr. Vidal and his company are trying to create a product that will improve the quality of all the wines we drink. I think it's exciting and I hope they experience success in the future.

Great Episode, the nerdier the better. QOTD: I have no qualms with any of the closures of wine. I am much more concerned with taste.

Great Show and thanks to Mr Vidal for his humour and all the explanations. As a french consumer I will say that nowadays most bottles (even good wine bottles) are closed with synthetic cork. This does not altere the taste of wine. Moreover, as the cork itlself does not smell , then the wine reveals its true taste. I am quite sure that most of you 've already opened a bottle with synthetic cork and you have not noticed it was not a natural one !

QOTD: I know this answer is a little tardy, but in the essence of answering the guest's question: Yes, I would be kinda disappointed if I opened a $75 cab. and out came a plastic synthetic cork that I can't even get off corkscrew. If it were a 'nicer' or newer type of synthetic cork that resembled a natural one, and knowing that nomacorc would be specifically chosen based on the wine's O2 requirements, that would be acceptable for a $100 bottle. I am a younger (30 yr old) comsumer who works in a wine retail shop who's been around wine all my life, and unless I'm aging a wine, a screw cap/synthetic is fine. I've had many snappy whites sealed with screwcaps, and fantastic Italian reds closed with synthetics. I think it's tragic how many (uneducated) consumers would turn their nose on a great wine because of it's enclosure. Education yourselves, and you'll be a better consumer. That's why I watch your show.
