QOTD: Over the years I would say Zind Humbrecht. They have had some really skunky Pinot Gris' lately though.

That Hugel Gentil is a type of blended white wine that the Alsatians also call an Edelzwicker ("noble pinch" i.e. selection). They can be a nice introduction to Alsace.

The best Alsatian wine I've had recently: the 2008 Domaine Weinbach Pinot Blanc Reserve. Fresh yet smoothly polished. I brought to a BYOB wine party where everyone else brought reds, and it stole the show. Body, acidity, minerality, all holding the apple-pear fruit carefully in place. I kicked myself for not buying two bottles, so I could have had one for dinner with sausages or roasted scallops. Honestly I thought it was a 91 point wine. About $22-$26.

Screw that, I'm going 91+. Excellent wine that stood out among some good bottles brought by others.

I like I'm sure most people think of gewurtz and riesling when I think of Alsace. Excited to try that Hugel
