Episode #89 – The Final Grape
After an amazing run that spanned more than half a decade, Gary Vaynerchuk today announces his retirement from producing regular wine video content. Thank you to all the Wine Library TV and Daily Grape fans that have made this chapter of Gary's life so gratifying.

Posted a new video on www.unwined.tv suggesting a simple 4-step guide to good food and wine pairing, for those who are interested.
This seems to be the most recurring topic of conversation when sharing wines with other wine lovers, so we thought we'd devote an episode to tackling the basics and presenting one method to getting neat pairings!
Following on from our crazy 15-grape italian wine last week, we have plenty more fun episodes lined up - and we hope to make some unusual videos on Austrian, English and Alsace wines soon, if we can get our hands on the good stuff!
Cheers :) -

Any NYC or DC suggestions, Grapers? I'm off to dig through comments.

Entente Cordiale
Sorry Danade, not aware of any specific ones, although from memory Dominus may have mentioned some DC places a few months back (I might be wrong). Would love to know if you find any top DC places, as I may be there for 6 months next year!

Congrats to Mott and the G-Men!
Though this morning my heart goes out to Ravens and Niners fans. I've lived the agony of dropped TD passes and stupid special teams play. The teams who played the best yesterday, lost.
That's why we love the NFL. :)
Go G-Men!
P.S. I always ask the obvious. How many rings would Peyton have if he had any of those defenses yesterday?
-
ZachNYC
Better yet...how many SB appearances would he have with an offensive line like the Giants had on Sunday...LOL. Eli had no time to do anything!

On Saturday, I'm taking the Unwined.TV crew to a one-off Chateau Margaux tasting in London. Several of the top vintages will be available for tasting, as well as some "experimental" Margaux, ie. some wines which have had specific things done to them in order to test the effect on flavour, texture, etc. We're all super pumped and I wish I could take all the Daily Grapers along!
However, we'd like to humbly ask what your favourite Bordeaux vintages are (and why!)? It seems everyone has a personal favourite and I've found that asking someone for their favourite Bordeaux vintage is a great way to understand their palate generally.
So - let me know, here or via www.unwined.tv if you prefer.
Thanks for your input!-
Dominus
Margaux? I'm there and will definitely watch. I am trying to procur some '09s but for some reason they had been hard to find.
My favorite Bordeaux? Reignac, hands down. I have some "history" with them. You know the usual: the ambience, person, mood, all of the above. Here is the venue hosted by a fellow Vayniac @John_J some years ago.
http://www.antrim1844.com/Though Reignac never scored big ratings at WS, I always liked them. The '00 and '05 are quite good but, of course, everything out of Bordeaux was good those years.
Looking forward to your show.

Hard to pick just one. On the more cost effective side I like Clos Les Lunelles. I enjoyed the '05 and the prices have fluctuated lately. Some higher price.... Château Léoville Poyferré, then out of the "big boys" (first growths)...I choose all of them :-))).
Ultimately, I have never met a Bordeaux that I didn't like....LOL. Wish I could be there at the Margaux tasting.

Wow, I haven't checked Daily Grape in MONTHS and it's amazing to see over 3,800 comments on the Final Grape. How I everyone doing? I definitely miss WLTV and Daily Grape. Drinking a 2007 Madiran right now. Opened it last night and decanted for about 2 hrs. It was ridiculously chewy and meaty. Re-corked and drinking again tonight and it's smoothed out a little bit. Very interesting wine with the tannins from Tannat. Time to get caught up on comments

Please check out the latest episode of Winegazer TV featuring wines from an exciting wine region in California known as Santa Barbara County. This wine region has dramatically varying micro-climates forming AVAs such as Sta. Rita Hills, Santa Ynez Valley, and Happy Canyon. Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc wines from Carr Winery and a Super Tuscan blend from Silver Winery are reviewed on the show. Hope you enjoy. Cheers, Scott

Vayniaks, I have exciting news... this weekend, I'll be opening my bottle of Zyme Kairos 2005 (from northern Italy)... a mix of FIFTEEN different grapes! I've never had such a multi-grape mix before, and several of the grapes used are near extinct varieties!! I'll be reviewing it on www.unwined.tv too, if you want my take on it! I think I've also devised the ultimate guide to food and wine pairing, so I'll be sharing my thoughts on that too.
What are you all cracking open this weekend? Does anyone have a particular favourite January wine? I went for sauvignon blanc last week, and it was pretty ideal as a light way to start the year. Happy weekend :)-
